@Hiddenfolk: I should take a leaf out of your book and do it sometime - I see it in comics from time to time but somehow never tried fitting one into my stuff.

@Oly-RRR: Have you ever read/seen "Big Numbers" by Alan Moore and Bill Sienkiewicz? Although an aborted project it had a huge influence on me in terms of storytelling, including this way of handling scenes (to extremes!). But yes, it's a very much an effective approach - and by what I can tell I see it fitting in your storytelling pretty well.
